Knitting

I’ve been making a concerted effort to do more knitting, especially to finish up projects that have been languishing for a while. Here’s one, modelled by my lovely ten-year-old daughter, C. :-)

I knit the cabled band at least five years ago and then didn’t bother to pick it up again until yesterday…

And probably jinxed myself by doing so. T has new mittens today, knit from Peace Fleece worsted in firebird orange with stripes of Ukrainian red on the cuffs. He loves them!

Now G wants a pair out of the same yarn, and my eyeballs are already bleeding…

Thursday was one of those days around here. This was my supper:

Today (well, technically yesterday I suppose since it’s just after midnight) was better. I finished my scarf out of Sock Hop yarn in the San Francisco colorway. I love it!

Crispy pecans

Warm from the oven these are like crack — Crispy pecans

Soak fresh pecans in salt water overnight, drain and rinse, then dry in an oven no warmer than 150 degrees for 12 to 24 hours until they’re crip. The keep warm setting on my oven works very well for this. Yum!

I took almost a hundred photos today as I finished my weekend project of organizing my yarn stash. I’m finished except for the Wollmeise, which is a project in and of itself. Still, feeling accomplished and organized and like I need to learn to knit in my sleep…

Here is yesterday’s photo, one of only two I took that day as it happens. G is a little under the weather and she tucked herself in for a nap on the futon in my sewing room/office:

And then today she cracked us all up, including herself, by making faces reflected in the saucepan on the stove while we were cooking supper:

I’m afraid G may get the lion’s share of kid photos for this blog — She’s a goof and a ham and is frequently underfoot when I have my camera out.

More sweet than bittersweet

Today’s image made me catch my breath, but not necessarily in a bad way. My dad helped my children hang up birdhouses in August, 2010 on what ended up being his last visit to New Hampshire. I miss him every day, but I saw this today and smiled first instead of crying first, which was a a first of its own kind.

Healing Tea

I’m recovering from pneumonia at the moment and it’s going frustratingly slowly. I’ve never had it before now and hope never to have it again — It’s no joke! This afternoon a friend stopped by with some soothing herbal tea that tastes great.

I love that the steam shows up in the photo. :-)
